A letter from Veronica, 2001

Hello,

My name is Veronica and I am 15 years old. I was born on September 6th, 1986. I was attending Henry Clay Middle School when I was enrolled in Inside Out. Now I am in 11th grade at George Washington Preparatory High School with a 3.0 GPA. I am also an Alumni Mentor with Inside Out. What made me want to be a mentor is because I wanted to give back what I received: help. What I get out of it is comfort knowing that I gave back to my community and that I helped someone.

I plan to go to college and am thinking about New York University. As for my future career... I’m considering being an actress, filmographer, director, or politician.

Let me tell you a little about my experience with Inside Out:

Clearest memory... The way they would help us, and how we would interact at the social events.

Positive changes... Something that changed for the better was my perspective on life. Before Inside Out came into my life I thought the world was out to get me. Until Inside Out came and helped me Experience Life!

My experience also helped me think about the Arts, education, my community and the world:

The importance of the Arts...
The Arts are important to me because they’re a form of expression. With out art this world would be very plain.

Changes I’d like to see in the public education system... Inside Out Community Arts, money, end racist conditions at our school and distribute money to schools based in need not greed.

Changes I’d like to see in Los Angeles... I would like to change the way society thinks about different races.

Changes I’d like to see in the world... Change the way society thinks about different races. We should come together and unite.
